Assessment
Prior to any treatment at the Sydney Chiropractic and Osteopathy Centre we do an in-depth assessment on each client, enabling us to develop a treatment program specific for that person.
Chiropractors and osteopaths thoroughly evaluate the entire individual for biomechanical, musculoskeletal and neurological function and integrity. Chiropractors utilise their knowledge, diagnostic skills, and clinical judgement to implement the most appropriate treatment strategy.
We understand that there is a strong relationship between structural balance (muscles and bones) and body function. Standing, walking, sitting and even sleeping postures have a profound effect on musculoskeletal function. It is therefore critical to evaluate a patients overall structure from the feet up.
A typical initial session will involve:
- A thorough history both current and previous
- Physical assessment
- Diagnosis
- Treatment
- Treatment plan or prescription
An assessment involves:
- Standing and seated posture evaluation
- Scoliosis scan
- Movement assessment
- Chiropractic/ Osteopathic joint assessment
- Muscular assessment for strength and weakness
- Neurological and orthopaedic testing
The history and assessment allows us to form a picture on what is occurring. With this knowlwdge we can take the appropriate steps to treat the problem.
Treatment may include massage, muscle releases, stretches, joint mobilisation and/or manipulation, acupuncture, ultra sound, heat or ice therapy.
At the end of each initial session a treatment plan is given to each patient which outlines the diagnosis, expected duration and frequency of treatment and any changes to lifestyle, exercise, work duties and ergonomics that will assist in achieving the best possible outcomes. The practitioner will also provide information regarding further treatment or referral. The treatment and advice you receive is critical in restoring and maintaining a balanced body which then allows good integration between structure and function and therefore the reduction of pain and chance for reoccurrence.
